Types of Gauge Life

Gauges may be assigned different types of life dependant upon the nature of the gauge, policy of the company or Quality Plan etc. The simple ‘Lapsed Time’ life runs continuously from the date of calibration, so a Next Calibration date can be assigned immediately.

However, calibrating gauges is an expensive exercise and if a gauge is not in use it should not experience wear. The ‘Stop-the-Clock’ type of life only consumes gauge life while a gauge is issued to an active area. The clock is stopped when the gauge is returned to the Gauge Store or any other none-active area.

Finally, the system can also assist monitor ‘Not Calibrated’ inventory that is issued to an area but will not be included in Recall or Overdue reports.
